Grow Your Power Through Inner Focus

Have you ever wondered why, when you feel like the world is spinning out of control, you feel scattered and confused? What if I told you that it’s simply because our experience is a mirror of our inner state? What if we were the ones responsible for the chaos we see around us? Yeah, sounds a bit heady I know, but it’s a really interesting concept tied to the principle that we create our reality, all of it, good and bad. And that is our true power, so let’s learn how to use it to our advantage!
The principle I’m talking about comes from Hermes Trismegistus, an ancient philosopher whose ideas were captured in what are referred to as the Emerald Tablets. Hermes identifies that one of the principles of earthly existence is the principle of correspondence. Correspondence means our experience is mirrored between the microcosm of what happens in our day to day, and the macrocosm of the broader world and the universe…..
”As above, so below, as below, so above”
This concept is related to another principle of the All, meaning since we are all born from the creator, we are all connected and part of the same whole. As a result, what we create in our human experience is reflected back to the universe and vice versa, creating a synergy that we experience both as a collective, and as an individual. Basically, where the world tells us we are separate, the truth is we are one.
From the perspective of energy, the quality of the vibration we hold is sent out to the universe and gets reflected back to us. We have free will, meaning that we choose this vibration (mostly unconsciously), and thus create our experience from what is reflected back to us. For example, when we see a post on social media that has us reacting in outrage and anger, and then spend our time doom scrolling, we feed into this narrative more and more and actually prop it up in our experience. So even if we didn’t personally create the conflict we are observing, we are still contributing by our response and the energy we hold through that response. So how is understanding this mirroring useful and what does that say about all the chaos we’re seeing in the world right now? Good question!
Remember, all creation is born of energy so the chaos we see is energetic, not physical. It manifests in physical ways, only by our individual and collective choice. This is most often unconscious because the world is ordered right now by systems designed to control. So we are influenced by the messaging that feeds us negativity, fear and division, which then gets inserted into our beliefs and culture and results in us holding energy that reflects that negativity, fear and division back into the world. However, the power lies in our choice. We can choose the perspective we take by becoming conscious of our thoughts, beliefs and actions. We can notice the chaos and choose to respond with peace and compassion.
The energetic vibration we hold has an impact on those around us. So when we smile at the person we pass on the street, we impact them directly. Which can shift their vibration enough to impact the people they come in contact with and so on it goes. This is how we as a collective come to vibrate at a certain level, and thus continue to create the world we see everyday. We can choose to meet the collective fear and division, or we can oppose it, just by how we show up. We can send positive ripples through the collective with each choice we make to be kind, loving, and compassionate. The comment on a social media post in support of someone or the complement and gratitude we show towards others from a place of authenticity. Rather than being transactional in our relationships, we show up in service to others with our abundance, be it through money, time, space or acknowledgement. This sends ripples throughout the collective more than you even know, because one candle in a dark room can light up the entire space.
So, the next question is, “How can I use this principle most effectively?” The answer is to begin building your inner world to influence what you wish to see in your outer world. Rather than focusing on what is happening around you, focus on what is happening within you. We cannot control anything outside ourselves so our power manifests from within. Pay attention to how you feel. Do you feel anxious and worried or fearful? Do some work on allowing that energy to flow through you by acknowledging that it is present. Then, ask yourself the question “Is this what I really want to create for myself?” You may find that sometimes the answer is “Yes” only because it has been your normal set point for a long time and something that is familiar. It is hard to let go of the familiar in favour of the unknown. This is normal and can allow you to come face to face with a shadow that when brought into the light, can be healed and released. Simply say “thank you (anxiety or fear) for protecting me and I release you now that I know my power”.
This process takes time and because we also co-create with the collective, we still may observe chaos around us. We all have free will so focusing on what is in our control and looking for the positive changes happening alongside the chaos is also powerful. As a collective, we are still shifting our perspectives towards community and peace. The revolution we see is this response to realizing our sovereignty. This takes time and there will still be those individuals that are not aware of their power and behave from reaction. We can’t change this, but we can influence it by showing up from our own place of power. Our energy can soothe and even plant a seed, which may take some time to grow. The ripple starts with one drop in the ocean.
